Yughakin Donation - St. Mary Armenian Church 2025-26

THE MEANING OF YUGHAKIN

Yughakin—literally meaning “the price of oil”—is one of the beautiful and ancient traditions of the Armenian Church. In the early centuries of our Christian faith, every believer took part in supporting the local church by offering a contribution toward the purchase of oil. That oil kept the lanterns burning, illuminated the holy space, and ensured that the doors of the church were always open for worship, prayer, and fellowship.

As we rejoice in the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are invited once again to embrace this sacred tradition. Yughakin is more than a donation; it is a symbol of our love for God’s house and our commitment to keeping His light shining in our community.

May we continue this cherished custom with grateful hearts—so that at St. Mary, our lanterns may always burn brightly, and our doors remain open to every soul seeking God.
