Goal
The Uyghurs are Muslim minority living in the province of Xinjiang, China. The oppression against Turkic minority, later, ethnocide, was Chinese government’s response to the terror attack by East Turkestan independence movement. Since the officials’ visits to Xinjiang in 2014, the infamous “re-education” camps for ethnic minority were established where the government continues to invest to expand its numbers.
Today, it has been reported that around 1 million Uyghurs are being illegally detained in nearly 400 internment camps in Xinjiang and women are suffering from systematic rape, dehumanizing violence, forced sterilisation, forced labour, mass surveillance and endless brainwashing. The exposure of unsettling video footages showing serious human rights violations and numerous allegations of sexual abuse and assaults against Uyghur women have led International community condemn China’s abusive treatment of Muslim Uyghurs.
We, JACE, are one of the 135 UN-accredited NGO coalitions who signed joint appeal to “Defend NGO Rights and to Protest China’s Anti-Muslim Racism” to urge UN Secretary-General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN Human Rights Council and UN Member States, submitted by UN Watch, on the occasion of the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, 19 March, 2019.
The “crime against humanity” in detention camps has drawn international condemnation and we , JACE, have decided to fight against all forms of discriminations and violence targeting Uyghurs and build shelters to rescue them from detention camps. Together with International Community and Muslim community, we are planning to deliver effective humanitarian aid to save Uyghurs, especially women and children from ongoing sexual torture. We must not close our eyes to violence against women and serious human rights abuse anymore. It’s time to stand together and fight against oppression and injustice of Muslim Uyghurs.
