St. Vincent Clean Water Relief

On Friday, April 9th, the Caribbean island of St. Vincent was rocked by an explosive eruption from La Soufriere volcano.

“The volcano caught us with our pants down, and it’s very devastating,” stated retired police officer Paul Smart. “No water, lots of dust in our home. We thank God we are alive, but we need more help at this moment.” (AP News)

The volcano has continued to explode since, causing "chronic water shortages" in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a government spokesperson, Sehon Marshall, told a local radio station Tuesday. (Axios)

"Falling ash and pyroclastic flows have destroyed crops and contaminated water reservoirs. Garth Saunders, head of the island’s water and sewer authority, noted that some communities have not yet received water." (Washington Post)

World Hope International is working with the St. Vincent Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade to respond with clean water and emergency relief supplies - and you can support this response with a gift today.
