Ruby was one of 30 dogs rescued by Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue from a single property. Ruby was isolated in a box made out of wooden pallets. She did have straw and a dog house, but she pleaded for help to get out of that box! When we arrived to rescue her, it was evident that she needed medical help – she had no hair!
Ruby went immediately to the vet and skin treatment began, unfortunately, the antibiotics did not work so more skin cultures were done and it was found that Ruby had a rare bacterium that is resistant to most antibiotics. During this time, Ruby suffered a vaginal prolapse and had to have immediate surgery.
After weeks of recovery from her surgery, Ruby is happy, active, and loving but still battling the skin issues. The poor girl gets so itchy and breaks out in rashes and sores. Months of medications and daily baths to keep the infection under control has still not solved the root of her condition. She has a consult scheduled in December with a Dermatologist at the Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine to try to find the cause of her skin issues.
Ruby is in a foster home that is one of the most dedicated foster homes we have ever had. They have taken care of Ruby for over 9 months, attended dozens of vet visits, given hundreds of baths, administered daily medications with no known end in sight. They have vowed to care for sweet, adorable Ruby for as long as she needs them. We are all hoping for a miracle for Ruby this Holiday Season.
