This tiny little girl was found abandoned in an apartment after her owner went missing. Utilities had been turned off and she was hiding in the back of a crate, her blankets soiled with urine and feces.
She was unable to be removed from the apartment due to the renter’s legal rights. Due diligence had to be done to try to find her owner. The maintenance man fed her for 2 weeks while the property manager tried to locate her owner to no avail. After the two week period was up, the property manager removed her and reached out to us for help.
Penelope is only 7 lbs and is a healthy girl but we believe she may have never left the apartment. She does not like to step on grass and even after being in foster care for weeks, is still not potty trained. She is scared and withdrawn, but loves her leash walks, which is helping her come out of her shell. She still needs much more time to acclimate to living in a home and to build her confidence.
Sometimes time is all these dogs have on their side and time is what we will give little Penelope until she is a mentally healthy and balanced enough to transition into a loving home of her own.
