Goal

Breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering girls in Burundi through education.

In Burundi, over half of primary school students drop out, and 35% of girls leave school by age 15. Financial hardship forces families to prioritize boys’ education, while girls face early marriage, limited access to secondary school, and miss school during their periods due to a lack of hygiene products. These barriers perpetuate poverty and inequality.

Why Focus on Girls?

Educating girls creates lasting change:

  • Delays early marriage and leads to healthier families.

  • Improves incomes, strengthening communities and economies.

  • Breaks cycles of poverty through opportunities in education and careers.

Strategic Approach

Short-term (2024–2027): Sponsor Girls to Complete Secondary Education
Our immediate goal is to sponsor 10,000 girls to complete secondary education by 2027. We've already started with 15 girls this year.

Mid-term (2025–2028): STE(A)M and Soft Skills Training
We will augment formal education with training in STE(A)M, computer skills, life skills, ensuring students are well-prepared for higher education and the job market

Long-term (2026 Onwards): Build Training Centers and Establish a STE(A)M School
We plan to establish two training centers in Bujumbura and Gitega, providing vocational skills to girls who have dropped out of school. By 2030, our existing primary school, St. Stephen, will evolve into a full STE(A)M school, offering advanced courses in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
