Retired Rear Admiral Jay Garagaroo (Admiral for short), lost nearly all of his feet to frostbite in the winter of 2024/2025. He was living with a breeder who did not lock their birds in coops in the coldest winter, and much of the flock perished. Thankfully, Admiral made it and he also deeply bonded with a hen, Pfeffernüsse, who also lost both of her feet to frostbite.

Pfeffernüsse and Admiral are part of our indoor special needs bird crew. They require specific environments and therapies to thrive, but that doesn't mean they can't live full, happy lives. We are so glad they're here.
