Each Spring, when warmer weather brings blooming flowers and budding trees. It’s a season of rebirth and a perfect time to celebrate and recommit to putting compassion first.
Some people mark this time of year by purchasing baby animals — such as ducklings — as family pets. They see this as fun way to celebrate the season and share the gift of life with their loved ones — but unfortunately these gifts come at a cost. It’s easy to fall in love with a baby animal, but most people lack the knowledge, resources, space, and commitment needed to provide the lifelong care these babies deserve. Though their guardians have good intentions, these animals tend to be treated as temporary playthings rather than the living, feeling beings they are. Oftentimes, ducks are abandoned at ponds and parks with no protection from predators. Domestic ducks cannot fly to escape danger.
Fortunately, it’s easy to celebrate compassionate traditions that honor animals instead by sponsoring a duck. At FFAS, when you sponsor a duck, you support these animals’ lifelong care and help us work to end the exploitation of other farm animals just like them.
