Thank you for standing in solidarity with refugees.
SolidariTee uses donations to give grants to grassroots NGOs providing legal aid and expert mental health support to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece.
About our virtual gifts
These packages make a thoughtful, values-led gift for a loved one, as well as being a unique way to recognise the impact of your own donations.
Each SolidariTee gift comes with a brochure detailing the impact of your donation. If you're purchasing this gift for someone else, both of you will receive a copy of the brochure, either via email or in the post, accompanied by a handwritten card.
Please note that unless you choose to make this gift anonymous, we will share the name of the person who purchased the virtual gift with the gift's recipient. We generally email/post all brochures within 48 hours, but if you'd like the gift to arrive on a certain date, please email [email protected] and we'll do our best to make that happen.
Why a virtual gift?
Legal aid is incredibly under-funded. People seeking asylum in countries like Greece, where many of our NGOs operate, are forced to navigate a highly complex asylum process, set up to intimidate and exclude, without any guidance.
This results in a high rate of deportations, many of which are unjustified. In turn, this often leads to people being deported or forced into invisibility in Greece. Without refugee status, people rejected for asylum lose access to any form of state provided support or the rights to housing, work or education.
The asylum process itself requires people, in shocking detail, to retell the events which led to them being forced to flee their homes. Even minor details missed can cause authorities to deem a person's application not 'credible'. All of this, understandably, takes a devastating toll on a person's mental health, and pre-existing trauma can make it even more difficult for a person to be able to cope with the asylum process.
That's why SolidariTee supports small NGOs that help prepare and represent asylum seekers during the asylum process.
Together, we're enabling individuals and families to gain access to long-term safety and access to services, in a way that is mindful of the trauma someone may have experienced, and which integrates mental health provisions and support.
In short, we believe this combination of legal and mental health support is one of the most empowering ways we can support individuals and communities. We are careful to select organisations who are efficient with their money, and who are accountable to and respectful of the population that they serve. With no paid staff and uniquely low overheads, there is no unnecessary 'leakage' of funds, and donations get straight to where they need to be.
All the amounts shown are representative examples of the impact your donation can achieve based on budget analysis from our NGO partners. We seek to allow our partner NGOs as much flexibility as possible, so we can't guarantee that donations will be spent on the particular types of expense referred to within the gifts, as we try to avoid 'restricting' funding. If you have any questions about SolidariTee's work or about these gifts, just drop us a line at [email protected]. Thank you for standing up for lasting forms of refugee support in this way.
