Thank you for standing in solidarity with refugees.
When you donate to SolidariTee, you support our grassroots partner organisations to provide trauma-informed legal aid to refugees, asylum seekers, and other people seeking safety from persecution.
Why a virtual gift?
In 2024, more than 59,000 people arrived in Greece in search of safety. That's more than one person every ten minutes.
People seeking asylum in countries like Greece are forced to go through a very complex asylum process, set up to intimidate and exclude, without any help. Except for charities and non-profit organisations, there is no access to free legal aid for people who have just arrived in Greece. That's where our partners come in.
Our partners support people who have been forced to leave their homes because of their religion, gender, political opinion, sexuality, or ethnicity, among many other reasons.
The asylum process itself requires people, in shocking detail, to retell the events which led to them being forced to flee their homes. Even minor details missed can cause authorities to deem a person's application not 'credible'. All of this, understandably, takes a devastating toll on a person's mental health, and pre-existing trauma can make it even more difficult for a person to be able to cope with the asylum process.
For this reason, our partners focus on trauma-informed approaches to legal assistance. In doing so, our partners help people to gain the right to safe housing, work, healthcare, and education. They do this in a way that recognises the mental health impacts of the persecution someone has faced, as well as the retraumatising effects of the legal process, and which provides wraparound support to people and their families. team at our partners Equal Legal Aid
Trauma-informed legal aid restores agency, reunites families, and supports people to rebuild their lives in peace, safety, and with the freedom to be who they are.
How our virtual gifts work
These packages make a thoughtful, values-led gift for a loved one, as well as being a unique way to recognise the impact of your own donations.
If you are choosing a virtual gift on behalf of someone else, we'll ask you for the email address of the person you'd like us to send the gift to, as well as the date and time that you'd like the gift to arrive. An email informing your loved one that a virtual gift donation has been made on their behalf, along with a holiday card detailing the impact of their donation, will be sent to them via email. A copy will also be sent to you as well, which can be printed out if you would like.
Please note that this is not an automatic process, and SolidariTee is entirely volunteer-run. We will be available throughout the holiday period, and can send personalised emails to gift recipients within a few hours of donations being made, but wherever a days' notice is possible, we really appreciate it!
All the amounts shown are representative examples of the impact your donation can achieve based on budget analysis from our NGO partners. We work to make sure our partner NGOs can use SolidariTee funds flexibly, to support their clients in the way that is best in each individual case, so funds may be used to support services other than those listed. If you have any questions about SolidariTee's work or about these gifts, just drop us a line at fundraising@solidaritee.org.uk.
