Thank you for standing in solidarity with people forced to flee their homes.
SolidariTee uses donations to give grants to grassroots NGOs, like those in the pictures above, providing legal aid and psychosocial support to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece.
Legal aid is incredibly under-funded, and people seeking asylum in countries like Greece, where many of our NGOs operate, are forced to navigate a highly complex asylum process, set up to intimidate and exclude, without any guidance. This results in a high rate of deportations, many of which are unjustified, and leads to people being deported or forced into invisibility in Greece, losing access to any form of state provided support or the rights to housing, work or education. At the same time, the asylum process itself requires people, in shocking detail, to retell the events which led to them being forced to flee their homes, and even minor details missed can cause authorities to deem a person's application not 'credible'. All of this, understandably, takes a devastating toll on a person's mental health, and pre-existing trauma can make it even more difficult for a person to be able to cope with the asylum process.
That's why SolidariTee supports small NGOs that help prepare and represent asylum seekers during the asylum process, enabling individuals and families to gain access to long-term safety and access to services, in a way that is mindful of the trauma someone may have experienced and which integrates mental health provisions and support.
In short, we believe this combination of legal and mental health support is one of the most empowering ways we can support individuals and communities. We are careful to select organisations who are efficient with their money, and who are accountable to and respectful of the population that they serve.
All the amounts shown are representative examples of the impact your donation can achieve - a little goes a long way in legal aid. Please note that these figures vary by region and organisation.
