Outside in: broadening the inclusion of refugees and displaced people

SolidariTee are delighted to invite you to our annual conference 2024 on Saturday 16th March in Camden, London.

About the Event

Nine years on from 2015, when the ‘refugee crisis’ in Europe first drew mainstream media attention and large scale-up in efforts from grassroots NGOs supporting refugees and asylum seekers, some things have changed, but many haven’t.

In 2024, we’re in an era of reduced funding for humanitarian and peacebuilding initiatives within conflict and disaster affected countries, whilst borders become increasingly hostile and dangerous, and migration policies are frequently aimed at criminalisation and marginalisation of people who move. This event aims to understand more about which groups of people are current ‘insiders’ and ‘outsiders’ within efforts to support those who are forced to flee their homes, and answer questions about what can be done to change contexts where people are excluded, either from receiving services or from sharing their experiences in a way that is listened to.

Discussing activism and advocacy efforts alongside legal, media and political dynamics, we will be exploring meaningful changes that can be made to dismantle barriers to dignified, holistic support for forcibly displaced people. We’ll be asking questions about why such changes have often been so slow to be enacted, and learning from and with those at the heart of grassroots movements to provide lasting solutions to the challenges faced by refugees, asylum seekers and other people on the move or in vulnerable migration contexts.

All proceeds from this event will be used to fund SolidariTee's partner NGOs who work in Greece to provide trauma-informed legal aid, and mental health and psychosocial support.

Other details

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. As always, tickets are available on a 'donate what you can' basis, with a suggested £12 donation, however you are welcome to donate any amount of your choosing. A donation is not required in order to attend the event - if you would like to register for a free ticket, please simply email outreach@solidaritee.org.uk to confirm your name and any dietary or accessibility requirements in order to reserve a place at the event.

If you are a current SolidariTee volunteer, or have personal or family experience of forcible displacement, we may be able to support with the reimbursement of travel expenses if you wish to attend the event but may otherwise be unable to do so. In this case, please email outreach@solidaritee.org.uk to let us know where you would be travelling from and the approximate cost of travel, and we will respond to enquiries on a rolling basis - please note that our budget is limited, so we may not be able to support everyone in this way.

Thank you for your interest in attending this event, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
