Solar Energy for Peace in Paimol, Uganda

At Let’s Share the Sun, we are trying to bring hope, safety, security, and empowerment through solar energy to the community of Paimol, Uganda, where one of the most powerful peace building stories in all of Africa has begun.

With your support, solar arrays and battery storage will be installed at the Blessed Daudi and Jildo School for Peace, eliminating power outages, lowering energy costs, and creating long-term benefits for both the school and the surrounding community.

Paimol is home to agriculturalist communities living without reliable electricity and lies at the intersection of longstanding tensions between the Acholi and Karamojong peoples – conflict driven by poverty, cattle raiding, and the spread of small arms. It is also a Catholic pilgrimage site, honoring Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa, two young catechists whose martyrdom inspires reconciliation and peace.

The school brings together children from both ethnic groups, fostering mutual understanding, education, and peaceful coexistence. For hundreds of students, it offers access to formal education that would otherwise be out of reach. This will help to reduce illiteracy and build a more stable future in the area and beyond.

Reliable solar power will ensure uninterrupted learning by providing:

Beyond the school, the system will serve the wider Paimol community by providing phone, radio, and lantern charging, expanding the reach of this project to families across Paimol.
