Soddy-Daisy Community Library
The Soddy-Daisy Community Library began on January 28, 2018 with the purpose of making library access free to everyone. Because of this, our patrons are not only from Soddy-Daisy, but from all over Hamilton County, as well as Rhea, Bradley, and Sequatchie counties. As of August 2019, we serve 1,200 patrons and offer over 20,000 items available for checkout, including books, audio books, and DVDs/BluRay Discs. 90% of the available items have come from community donations. The majority of our patrons do not have the financial ability to pay for library access, making the SDCL their only resource.
We provide weekly story times and monthly PJ Party Story Times and LEGO Dumps for children. Our outreach programs work with local schools and non-profit partners to increase literacy and the joy of reading. We also offer a variety of book clubs, adult activities, and classes covering a range of topics from crafts to financial sustainability and off-the-grid living.
The SDCL does not receive any governmental support or tax moneys and is fully funded by community and corporate donations. The library staff is 100% volunteer-run, including the founders and board of directors. The annual cost of keeping the library open to the community is approximately $30,000. Your support of the SDCL will allow us to continue the important work of improving the lives and literacy of our extended community.
