Goal

“Sometimes I wish I could bottle up how I see the world - how grateful I am for every day,  and give it to everyone so they could go  through life with a dose of that perspective.”

We honour the memory of our beautiful Sophie, a force of nature whose strength, humour, and empathy touched everyone she met.

Sophie didn’t let cancer define her, she transformed it into purpose. Sophie’s words remind us of what really matters.  Gratitude, perspective, and the urgency to make life count.

Sophie was just 14 when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive childhood bone cancer. Despite facing three very different cancers before her 18th birthday, and enduring the brutal effects of chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow transplant, and more, Sophie never lost her light. She faced every challenge with courage, joy, and a deep desire to make things better for others.

Before she passed away at just 24, Sophie made it clear: she didn’t want anyone else to go through what she did. She dreamed of a future without childhood bone cancer, and she inspired all of us to help build it.

Today, to mark the first year without our precious Sophie, we honour her wish.

We’re raising funds for the Osteosarcoma Research Program at the Children’s Cancer Institute, under the supervision of A/Prof Emmy Fleuren, one of the brightest stars in sarcoma clinical research in Australia. This project is focused on discovering safer, kinder, more effective treatments for young people like Sophie, using ‘avatar’ tumour models to accelerate personalised, targeted therapies.

Your donation will directly support this vital research, and help bring Sophie’s vision to life: a world where no child has to suffer through outdated, toxic treatments for cancer.

Give in memory. Give with purpose. Give for a future without childhood bone cancer.

The Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation

The Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation (CRBF) provides funding to support critical research for sarcoma, aims to heighten community awareness of this cancer and provides support for patients and families living with a sarcoma diagnosis.

All Funds raised from this campaign will be directed to the Osteosarcoma Research Programme at the Children's Cancer Institute, and CRBF will double the first $20,000 raised to honour Sophie's memory and legacy.
