Goal

The Skokie Alliance for Electoral Reform is a nonpartisan, grassroots movement begun in December 2021 to revitalize democracy and promote inclusive civic engagement in our Village through three referendums to change Skokie’s electoral system: Nonpartisan Elections, Staggered Terms, and Hybrid Representation. On Nov. 8, 2022, Skokie voters chose to pass all three referendums in order to

  • Increase and diversify candidates on the ballot

  • Invigorate voter turnout for all local races

  • Improve representation and accountability across Skokie

On December 4, 2023, the implementation of the referendums was voted into law by the Village of Skokie Board of Trustees. The Alliance will now focus on voter and candidate education.

Any funds raised will go toward public education materials and events and ongoing overhead costs such as our website and email platforms.
