Advocate for Foster Children

Victor Sims’ story is one of beating incredible odds to achieve success, then using that success to give back an advocate for some of our most vulnerable children. He currently serves as a case manager for One Hope United, a role to which he brings personal experience and deep understanding.

Victor was born in Polk County, Florida in 1995 and entered foster care when he was just a few months old. After eleven years in the foster care system, Victor and his sister Victoria were adopted by Ronald and Violet Sims, who have provided a forever home to seven foster children and who continue their support for foster children.

In 2014, Victor graduated from Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and JROTC, while simultaneously earning an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Polk State
 College. He received an Outstanding Young Leader Award in 2014, one of only 100 students nationwide chosen for this award by FosterClub, a national network for youth in foster care.

In 2016, he graduated from the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is currently working
 on a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of West Florida.

Victor is a passionate advocate for children who have been removed from their parents and need protective supervision services. He has been a Champion of Child Welfare, serves on the National Foster Youth and
 Alumni Policy Council, and was named as a Child Defender Fellow by the Children’s Defense Fund. He has advised the Obama and Trump administrations on the importance of social capital for children in foster care.
