Goal

What is Silent September?

Silent September is Heartprint's annual fundraising campaign dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing for children, young people, and families in our Cambodian community.

Throughout September, participants commit to one or more 8-hour blocks of silence, asking family, friends and colleagues to sponsor their silence with a donation. Every hour spent in silence becomes a powerful symbol of solidarity with those who feel unheard, unseen, or unable to ask for help.

We do this to stand beside children and young people whose voices are often lost beneath the weight of poverty, trauma, domestic violence, addiction, and stigma. Their struggles may not always be visible, but they are real, and together, we can make sure they don't face them alone.

Why Silence?

Mental health challenges exist in every country, but in Cambodia they are often compounded by poverty, limited access to professional support, and the lasting effects of trauma.

Many children and young people carry burdens they don't know how to express. Some have experienced violence. Others live in homes affected by addiction or family conflict. Many simply need someone who will listen, encourage them, and help them believe in a brighter future.

At Heartprint, we believe every person deserves to be heard.

By choosing silence, we raise our voices for those who feel they have none.

How It Works

Throughout September, we're building an Army of Silence.

Participants choose one or moreΒ 8-hour blocks to remain silent. As each person completes their shift, another takes over, helping us blanket the entire month in continuous silence.

Participants then invite their friends, family and workplaces to sponsor their silence, raising vital funds for Heartprint's mental health and wellbeing programs.

Together, our silence becomes a powerful movement of hope.

Where Your Support Goes

Every dollar raised helps provide life-changing mental health support through Heartprint's growing wellbeing programs.

πŸ’™ Wellbeing Officer

This year, Silent September is helping fund our full-time Wellbeing Officer.

This vital role provides daily emotional support for children and young people, identifies those who may be struggling, offers wellbeing education, coordinates referrals to professional counselling, and provides mentoring and career guidance to help young people build confident, independent futures.

Sometimes the greatest difference comes from knowing someone is there every single day.

πŸ’™ All Minds Matter

Through our partnership with qualified mental health professionals, individuals receive confidential one-on-one counselling to help them work through trauma, anxiety, grief and emotional challenges in a safe and compassionate environment.

πŸ’œ Circle of Strength

A therapeutic group supporting pre-adolescent and adolescent girls as they navigate the emotional and physical changes of growing up. Through guided activities, peer support and emotional education, girls develop confidence, resilience and healthy coping strategies.

πŸ’š Fighting the Monster

Children living in homes affected by addiction, domestic violence or other difficult circumstances often cannot escape those environments - especially when an entire family shares a single room.

Fighting the Monster equips children with practical coping skills, mindfulness techniques and emotional regulation strategies, helping them build resilience and strengthen their mental wellbeing.

While people in every country face mental health challenges, many Cambodians have far greater barriers to accessing support.

Everyone, everywhere deserves to be heard.

With your help, we can be the change.
