SHP needs you! Support life-changing program for rural Nebraska students
For 40+ years, ESU #11's Summer Honors Program has enabled rural Nebraska high school students to study advanced subject matter with instructors who can take them beyond most rural high school curricula.
Past SHP classes have included:
- A drama class that stands up an entire theater production -- from initial rehearsal to first performance -- in a week and a half
- A math class focusing on cryptology, where students craft formulas to encrypt, decrypt, and crack monoalphabetic and polyalphabetic ciphers
- A logic class that introduces students to ancient stoic philosophers
- A film class that invites students into the world of post-production by learning editing, sound mixing, visual effects, and color timing
- And much more, extending into subjects like architecture, art, medical science and more
Inside the classroom, students learn new concepts and expand their minds, while all the time building life-long bonds with fellow gifted students in the area. SHP fosters a sense of belonging and community that is so vital during students' formative teenage years.
Increased funding pressure
Given recent budget pressures faced by SHP, donations from alumni and friends fill in the gaps, so the program can continue to enrich the lives of students in rural Nebraska.
This campaign, led by Summer Honors Program Alumni Association, contributes to the program's overall fundraising needs.
