New York State law takes effect in December 2025 imposing sweeping regulations on all 501(c)(3) shelters and rescues.
Maximum 12 cats per room no matter how large the room is
Minimum 18 sq ft per cat
Meet higher standards for our facility, including construction materials, drainage, sanitation, lighting, air handling
We will be licensed subject to inspections
Our current shelter population is about 150 cats. Even if our facility was up to standards, the available square footage will only allow us to house 62 free roaming cats.

Your tax deductible donation will be used for costs of acquiring, outfitting and maintaining a property for Whiskers' new shelter, including costs for down payment, surveying, engineering and architectural fees, contractors, building supplies and materials, renovating and remodeling, utilities, building maintenance and repairs, loan repayment, permits, insurance, taxes and fees.
If our fundraising goal is not met and we are unable to acquire the new shelter, all funds will be dedicated to supporting the cats in Whiskers' care.
