      “Share our Joy!” Campaign

One hundred years ago, on December 26, 1923 five German Sisters traveled by boat and train to St. Louis to begin a mission to make Christ’s Merciful Love visible in the United States.  As Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, these five women tirelessly sought to do God’s will, first serving at Fr. Dunne’s Newsboy Home in St. Louis, then laying a strong foundation for our American Province. Serving in Alton, Illinois since 1925, our community invites you to help us celebrate 100 years of God’s Providence.

      What are the Sisters celebrating?

The vision and mission to make Christ’s Merciful Love visible reverberated in the hearts of our first five Sisters who traveled to the United States in 1923, and it continues to draw young women to enter our Community today.  This vision and mission has taken root and grown in numerous works and apostolates these past 100 years.

Today we continue the health care ministry that our first five Sisters began in Alton.  Our Sisters foster a beautiful home for the elderly and infirm at the Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis, MO.  We serve families and children in the Alton area at our St. Francis Day Care Center. Our Sisters have served at all levels of education in Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Ohio.  We have served and cared for clergy in various ways in Nebraska, Tennessee, Missouri, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.  Our Sisters are committed to the Church through service, daily prayer in community, and personal prayer in Eucharistic adoration.  We celebrate God’s providence and faithfulness in so many ways!

Our American Province, St. Elizabeth, continues to grow, even as most of our German Sisters now go to join our foundress, Mother M. Anselma, and our Sisters who have gone before us.  We have close to 120 Sisters in the United States with ages ranging from 89 to 22 years old.

      How are the Sisters celebrating?

On December 8, 2022 the Sisters of our American Province will officially begin a year in preparation for the celebration of our 100th Jubilee.  This celebration will take place December 26-30, 2023 and into the following full year.   As we celebrate 100 years, our goal is to raise 100K in 100 days (March 17, 2022 to June 24, 2022) for a community pilgrimage, history wall project, commemorative book, and more.  We end our fundraiser on June 24th, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
