On October 22, 2024, a 16-year-old transgender student in Bellingham, Washington was brutally attacked, and injured, by 8 teens. The assault followed extended and relentless bullying and harassment against the student solely because he is transgender. Sadly, this teen suffered a mild traumatic brain injury. As a result of the assault, he had to quit band (the noise) and his role in a play (he can't remember his lines now) that he loved so much.

The Bellingham Police Department is investigating this assault and is going above and beyond to assist the child and family in their pursuit of justice.
The family alleges that officials of Bellingham Public Schools and Bellingham High School have failed repeatedly in addressing their reports of bullying and harassment. The school district's Assistant Communications Director denies those allegations on behalf of the district and stated that school officials are cooperating with law enforcement and conducting their own internal investigation per school policy.
