Participating in the NYC Marathon has been a longstanding dream of mine, and I am thrilled at the prospect of making my marathon debut while simultaneously raising funds and awareness for the Friends of Governors Island. With each step of the race, I am committed to showcasing the significance of Governors Island as a cultural, historical, and ecological gem within our city.

Governors Island holds a special place in my heart as a haven from the urban hustle of New York City. Through volunteering with Earth Matter over the past fifteen years and being a zero-waste island volunteer at events like the Jazz Age and the Pride concerts, I've found community and purpose on the island. It's my escape, where I recharge surrounded by nature and culture. Whether savoring treats from Fauzia's Heavenly Delights, lounging on the hammocks or soaking in the island's vibrant atmosphere, Governors Island is where I find joy and relaxation. Representing the Friends of Governors Island in the NYC Marathon is a chance to give back to this cherished space, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for all who seek solace.
