In 2015 at a mobile boutique at Downer Elementary in San Pablo a conversation took place between WPE’s Executive Director, Gary Conner, and Downer Elementary’s Principal who shared something that stuck: when the school day ended, a lot of students didn’t have food.

Gary – famous for his “yes!” – immediately arranged for Downer to receive weekly fresh food deliveries. That conversation, eleven years ago, launched WPE’s School Pantry Program, which today serves 23 school communities!  

WPE’s School Pantry Program provides the groceries that get families through the week – no forms, no paperwork, no questions asked. What we deliver isn’t a supplement. It’s what stands between a full refrigerator and an empty one, and it allows scarce resources to cover rent, bills, fuel, and medical care.
