Goal
Momentum is joining forces with Bobaji Village School to help the most vulnerable children by providing them a meal and school material.
A critical issue in the region is the struggle to afford food and buy basic school material such as pen, or booknote. Disparities in educational indicators such as school progression, retention, and dropout rates associated with wealth remain high in several countries. Secondary school children frequently drop out of their education, further increasing the poverty cycle.
When we started to partner with the school, our goal was simple: to provide lunch for 230 secondary students, at a cost of just US$14 per trimester per pupil.
his small contribution had a profound impact, helping to improve the well-being of students and supporting their ability to succeed in school.
Now, after 5.5 years of collaboration, 285 secondary students—155 boys and 130 girls—have benefited from daily school lunches. This program is not only about feeding the most vulnerable but also about empowering students to focus on their education without the distraction of hunger.
A healthy meal at school allows students to perform better throughout the day. More importantly, it provides them with a reason to return to school. For many families, this support has been crucial, motivating parents to enroll their children with the confidence that their basic needs will be met while learning.
