Scholz Family in Lebanon
Help refugee kids in Lebanon know people care about them!
Naomi, Gideon, and Nate Scholz are heading to South Lebanon to bring about cultural exchange and understanding between American, Lebanese, and Syrian teens. They’ll be working alongside Syrian refugee workers in Lebanon and Skagit Academy faculty and staff in the Puget Sound area, in partnership with Voices of The Children. It’s a collaborative art project, which will be presented globally on social media.
Students will be given a portrait photo of themselves, printed on regular copy paper. They’ll be able to choose two pastel colors to creatively highlight their photo. They’ll also write a self-expressive poem and artistically add it to their self-portrait. The original art will be photographed and uploaded to the Voices of The Children Instagram page with the hashtag #hellohowareyoufine. Translations will be made available in the comments from Arabic to English and English to Arabic, so students from both sides of the world will gain insights into each other’s lives.
There’s also an element of play involved. Small gifts of kickbags will be offered for an active break in the artwork.
You’re invited to contribute to this effort to eliminate barriers to communication and understanding. $800 of the $4,300 needed has already been raised. This amount will cover travel expenses, art supplies needed, the cost of kickbags, snacks, and the meeting space rental.
