Goal
The Challenge of Childhood Cancer in India
Although the same life-saving medicines are available, childhood cancer survival rates in India (around 40%) lag significantly behind those in developed countries (over 80%). The primary cause is not the lack of treatment, but the problem of treatment abandonment.
Many socioeconomic factors contribute to this issue:
- Financial hardship and limited family literacy make navigating care difficult.
- Long travel distances to hospitals create a significant burden.
- Overcrowded public hospitals strain already-limited resources and staff.
These challenges disproportionately affect low-income and rural families, ultimately leading to lower survival rates.
Our Solution
To close this survival gap, Sawera Health has partnered with Aroh, a grassroots NGO, to combat treatment abandonment in India. We will tackle this problem with a two-part approach:
Bridging the Gap: We hire and train clinical social workers to serve as a vital link between hospital staff and families.
Going Digital: We empower everyone involved with digital tools to ensure timely, life-saving interventions.
How You Can Help?
Your donation is the key to bringing our solution to life.
With your support, we can implement the Sawera platform in three public hospitals in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pondicherry, giving caregivers the tools they need to end childhood cancer treatment abandonment in India—and give these children the chance to fight.
