(Updated Departure - Early August 2023)
----------------------------------------------
After over a decade residing in the heart of Brooklyn, our longtime dockage is undergoing major changes and we have no choice but to relocate the boat by the end of May 2023.
Long referenced as a slowly sinking ship, our vessel would not have been capable of being towed just a short while ago. But now, with the support of an incredible marine salvage team, we have recently completed the majority of the preparation needed prior to transport. In undergoing these initial repairs, we have gained a much more optimistic vision for our ability to repair the vessel for future use.
With your support, we will tow the boat to a local shipyard, where we can begin the long-awaited structural repairs necessary to begin the next chapter.
The opportunity of being a floating structure with 9,000 square feet of usable space, is that we have the freedom to relocate, once or even seasonally, as conditions support.
In a time of immense changes in culture, climate, and coastlines - maritime projects offer us adaptability, resilience, and inspiring creative environments for years to come!
We need to raise $100k to safely relocate the vessel to a shipyard, no matter the outcome. We are optimistic that this effort will lead to us securing the funding needed for the complete repairs. However, if we find that the hull repairs and costs are beyond our means, this investment will allow us to donate the vessel to a non-profit organization that uses decommissioned steel vessels as infrastructure for artificial reefs off the NY and NJ coastline.
We look forward to reconnecting with the many members of The Schamonchi’s storied history, and continuing her legacy as a collaborative network for years to come.
