More than anything, we need committed monthly supporters. On any given month, it costs about $7,000 to operate this program. We dwell in a large, multi-family home. Between the utilities, insurance, gas and groceries, it costs about $7,000 to operate this program. More when things break. Historically, we have averaged around $2,000 per month in donations, which has resulted in a persistent funding shortfall that has lasted for the past 30 years.

The subject of generosity makes us squirm, doesn’t it? We feel in our gut we’re not nearly as generous as we could be, as we should be. So, we live our days with low-level guilt when we’re not ignoring it altogether. According to the latest consumer spending data released by the United States Department of Labor, the average American household will spend $300 per month on Entertainment. Lottery tickets, games, music, movies or TV shows. Most people approach charitable giving by contributing what they won’t miss, typically a smaller portion of their resources that doesn’t significantly affect their lifestyle.
