Hello!

As you may  know, Barry and I went to Samos in October 2024 to meet with Samos Volunteers. I had heard about what they are doing on the island of Samos one day at school when I was looking up what was currently happening with refugees for the kids at my school.  After a Zoom call and reading two books about the refugee process and experience we booked our flights to Greece to see if this is something that we could support in some way. Everything that I had read on their website was exactly what we saw in action when we arrived in Samos. I knew then that volunteering with Samos Volunteers  is something I needed to do while I have this year off from work. 

 Samos Volunteers is a grassroots NGO supporting refugees and asylum seekers on the Greek island of Samos. A team of volunteers from all over the world provides psycho-social support, informal education and clothes and shoes.

Alpha Centre is our safe, dignified, and creative space for everyone. It is the go-to community space for people living in the refugee camp. 

Right next door we have our Free Shop, where people are invited to come and choose the clothing and shoes they feel most comfortable in.

At Alpha Land, only a five minute walk from the camp, we offer informal education, such as language classes, as well as workshops. We run sports activities, art and music workshops, and a gardening project.

They also support the LGBTQI+ community and offer a women's space. 

The work of Samos Volunteers relies heavily on private donations, which is why they are extremely grateful for your support. 

I will be volunteering there for two months this Spring. I am so grateful that I can support this organization with my time and gifts. Whether I am working in the clothing warehouse, welcoming community members at Alpha Center or teaching English at Alphaland I hope to be able to support and bless the people I am working with and serving.
