Sam's Fund
Our son Sam was killed by a careless driver in 2023. Sam was only 22 years old. He was a kind, caring young man with a great appetite for life. Sam was on the autism spectrum. He was quirky and found interpersonal relationships challenging, which made it hard for him to compete for jobs that interested him. His challenges are all too common. 80% of young adults with autism are unemployed. Existing educational and support systems are not designed to equip these wonderful people with the practical and social skills that employers are looking for. Far too often, young adults like Sam lose the sense that society cares about them. They feel isolated and adrift, without the stabilizing influences of a steady job or dependable social network. We created Sam’s Fund to help young adults with development challenges to build lives full of purpose and meaning. Sam’s Fund gives young adults the opportunity to build social support and job skills they need to contribute to and be thriving members of society.
