The first piece to changing animal welfare sustainably is education and awareness.

THE S.A.F.E. ACT
"Every horse in this country, no matter how loved, is just one bad sale away from slaughter."
Horses, donkeys and mules get sold into the auction circuit when they are no longer wanted by private owners as well as traders. These can be ex-racehorses, ex-rodeo horses, brood mares, carriage horses, commercial trail ride horses, pasture pets, ex-Amish work horses or buggy horses, etc. Traders flip these horses for profit (like used cars) and sometimes will sell by the pound to sl*ughterhouses across the borders. Donkeys’ skin is sought after to make a traditional Chinese tea called ejiao, byproducts put in things like dog food or treats. Many European countries consume horse meat as well as Japan and Korea. It’s a dark and seedy, sad industry with no accountability, a lot of abuse, neglect and inhumane practices.
In 2023, nearly 20,000 equines were shipped across our borders to slaughter plants. These slaughter plants have contracts with Korea, Japan, China, and a plethora of European countries .
Horses are sold to kill pen brokers who are contracted through the USDA ship them. They then endure a 20+ hour trailer ride in overcrowded hot trailers with no food, no water, terrified. Some weak, small or injured horses may fall during this trailer ride, where they subsequently are trampled - usually to death or near it.
Nothing about the process is humane.
Year after year, advocates are fighting for congress to pass the S.A.F.E. Act - which would end the export of horses for slaughter for human consumption. It is on the table, yet again, this year and the more support we can garner and awareness we can raise, perhaps this time, we can push it through.
Passing the S.A.F.E. Act alone will not end the rampant abuse and neglect in its entirety, but it will disincentivize "kill pen" buyers and decrease unnecessary suffering.
It is the first step in many to changing our cultural and societal approach to how we are treating our equines.
The more people that e-mail and call their legislators, the louder our voice will be for the voiceless.

WILSONHAUS RESCUE
WilsonHaus Rescue has a mission to save and enhance the lives of animals who need a second chance.
As stated above, signing the SAFE ACT will not end the abuse and neglect in its entirety. It is but one piece of the puzzle - albeit a large piece.
What we are seeing is a societal wide failure for animals in our country. One of my roles is to educate, advocate, and continue to be their voice.
Another piece of WilsonHaus Rescue is rescuing those who we are able to - from the abuse and neglect of the auction circuit, as well as creating more opportunities for owner surrender and owner support programming. This include our rescue (once we have our property secured) and assisting other equine rescues with their missions. Your support through WilsonHaus has helped well over 50 horses and counting out of the circuit.
Ethical rescue, frankly speaking, it expensive. I believe that real rescue begins not when an animal is marked as "safe" but in the work afterwards. I also believe in prevention, collaboration, and community outreach.
I am on a mission to raise funding and awareness for animals in need and your support helps us provide ethical rescue to animals in our care and animals in the care of likeminded rescues doing thorough and thoughtful work.
What does supporting our mission do?
Our primary focus is saving dogs on euthanasia lists in over capacity shelters and building our rescue ranch to be able to help horses.
➡️ PREVENTION PROGRAMMING
I am a big believer and proponent of prevention programming. I believe in meeting prevention with the same enthusiasm as reactive rescue. We MUST be a part of preventing more suffering, discard, and pain by providing spay and neuter programming.
The SOMEDAY vision is to be able to introduce a “steet fleet” of mobile clinics to assist in rural areas particularly in the south that are struggling. I believe this will be in a "part 2" of our race to a million - so stay tuned!
Prevention programming for horses looks like intervening BEFORE a horse ends up in the slaughter pipeline. That means increasing funding for owner surrender programs as well as owner support programs.
➡️ COLLABORATION
I believe in helping other ethical rescues with their missions and visions too. We have raised over 450k for other rescues in the past 3 years and I am now setting the odometer back at zero to push myself to see what we can do in 365 days - with the goal being to raise a million dollars for our rescue and to assist others. I believe in community over competition and that when ethical rescues band together, we can do such more more good
➡️ WILSONHAUS RESCUE
Our primary focus at this time is saving dogs at risk of euthanasia in over capacity shelters as well as rescuing horses from the abuse and neglect of the slaughter pipeline.
The funding helps us provide thorough, intentional and individualized rehabilitation, treatment and care to each and every animal we steward. Ethical rescue adds up - which is exactly why I am generating a sustainable and solid foundation to ensure the longevity of our work
This financing will ultimately also help with securing a property that is set up or able to be set up for what I envision
➡️ THE PROPERTY
Sprawling acreage for horses (both horses who need sanctuary and horses rehabbing in preparation for adoption), arenas for training, spacious stalls, hydrotherapy for horses and dogs, suites for dogs that are tailored to their individual needs, a private fenced in dog park for our canine residents, a training room for agility/basic training/meet and greets, and a memory garden with a large green house for our rescue residents and animal companions who have passed, honoring them with crystals for each one passed to display a orchestra of rainbows in their memory.

What your donation is used towards:
-Helping fund a property rescue ranch that we can mold into a beautiful safe haven for primarily dogs and horses in need.
- The rescue of dogs in overcrowded shelters. Your donation helps pay for their foster, quality food, transport (freedom ride) veterinary costs for both prevention and critical cases, equipment to enhance their lives so not only are the dogs surviving under our care, but THRIVING
-Once property is secured, it helps us save horses from the abuse and neglect of the slaughter pipeline and provide them the rehab, training, medical and emotional care needed
-Supporting prevention initiatives such as spay and neuter events to be part of getting ahead of the issues instead of only reacting to them
-Supporting collaborative rescue efforts with other ethical rescues aligned with our philosophies
-Building a team of big hearted and committed people who are as passionate about this mission and the values as I am. (trainers, operations staff, etc)
-Supporting WilsonHaus Rescue in our growth, expansion, continued education, and resources to be able to provide thoughtful and intentional rescue.
