On August 11th - 17th Aug 2023, in the Matale district of central Sri Lanka, the Religious Youth Service (RYS), an international and multicultural service project will take place. This RYS project, in addition to doing its substantial service work, promotes cultural and religious exchanges and offers insightful presentations from local and international speakers. Service, sports, cultural activities, group and personal discussions help shape an environment of friendship and peacebuilding. Our long term goal is to provide participants and the larger society with a peaceful antidote to the conflict and terror.
The RYS has a long history of being present in areas of conflict and playing an active role in promoting reconciliation and offering substantial service. In Sri Lanka, the RYS was active through the years of civil strife and aided in securing an end to the hostilities. After the devastating tsunami in 2006, RYS alumni and friends helped to rebuild housing and schools and draw people together with acts of service.
Recently, Sri Lanka's economic 'tsunami' did not stop the RYS Alumni and its partners from sending teams of volunteers to work in economically devastated areas and supply clean water, food, and educational support in several communities. The work of the RYS Alumni has been recognized in Sri Lanka and throughout the world by religious, civic, and political leaders on all levels of society. It is through the generosity of people like you that we can sponsor participants from Sri Lanka and neighboring countries.
Effective, efficient, and life-changing work is the RYS multicultural tradition. We have been able to accomplish so much through the cooperation of people from each religion and culture since we began in 1986. We have proved to be an antidote to radical haters as our practice over the decades is motivated by the principle of ”Selfless Service for the Sake of Others.”
We depend on the support of others to continue this legacy of peace building, reconciliation, and environmental care. We need you as a partner!
Today we are calling for your financial help to sponsor international volunteers.
Your offering can extend this legacy of service to the up and coming generation of leaders.
With deep appreciation
