Facing prosecution for protecting our livelihood during the Covid crisis

Case Update
After spending seven months fighting for common sense, we finally lost our battle on Thursday.

We were both convicted for failing to ensure Amalie's regular school attendance. We both received fines (£150 each) and we have to pay costs to the local authority (£120).

The legal team who helped us are in the process of putting together a statement to explain the situation, but in layman's terms: there is no defence for taking your child out of school to protect your family from financial ruin.

Our solicitor requested an absolute discharge, but the magistrates chose to punish us instead.

Luckily, we did not receive any form of school attendance order or parenting order. We were told that this was unlikely, but given the ridiculousness of the prosecution itself, we were very worried.

Despite the guilty outcome, we feel that we have been treated appallingly, and we also believe that the system is seriously flawed - we plan to make several complaints.

We would like to thank everyone for their support, encouragement and generosity. Without your support, we may have found ourselves in a far worse position. We would also like to thank the legal team who helped us through this very stressful situation.

A special thank you must also go to the Free Speech Union and the Daily Sceptic.

We've reached our goal!

Thanks to your amazing generosity, we reached our campaign goal in just three days! This means that our legal fees will now be fully funded.

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and words of support.

All excess funds will be used to help support other cases like ours.
