Helping Our Public Lands Recover from COVID-19
With social distancing regulations in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are turning to the outdoors more than ever for exercise and rejuvenation. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for public lands to keep up with the impact of increased use on top of existing maintenance backlogs, which totaled more than $19 billion in 2019.
For the past 26 years, NEEF has coordinated National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. In 2019, over 156,000 volunteers contributed $15.9 million in service at more than 2,000 public land sites across the country. Unfortunately, our current public health crisis threatens to halt this critical work for the foreseeable future.
In response, NEEF, with support from corporate partners Toyota Motor North America and International Paper, has established the Restoration & Resilience Fund to help distribute resources, mobilize volunteers, and restore these special places once the pandemic subsides.
If you would like to support the recovery of public lands threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic, please consider making a charitable donation to the Restoration & Resilience Fund. Your charitable contribution to the Fund will be matched by a corporate donor.
Thank you for supporting America’s public lands!
