Goal

My name is Robbie and I started my dreadlock journey around 8 years ago and have had long hair for about 10 years before that.

I feel it's time for this journey to end, which I was thinking about doing before Stella was born, but then held off for 3 years, as I didn't want her not to be able to recognise me. It was a little rocky at the start when I initially got them installed, going back numerous times spending 20 odd hours in the chair over 3 days.

Then had a few different lockticians over the years, even had them redone a couple of different times in Bali, but found someone in Maryborough who is really good at what she does and takes great pride in her work and haven't been to anyone else the past few years to have my locks maintained.

I have known for some time that when I do go for the big haircut that I wanted to do it for a purpose that is close to my heart, and Impact Recovery and their mission embodies that. I am proud to do what I can to contribute to the cause.

Impact Recovery is so grateful for the people in our team and wider community who love what we do and share our passion of Freedom From Addiction.

We thank you so much Robbie, for your decision to "lop the mop", "cut the trees", "do the trim", whatever you would call cutting such a massive and amazing amount of curated hair. Robbie is sacrificing the load of locks to benefit others who have carried a load.

Every cent you choose to donate outworks our mission of preventing homelessness, whilst helping to address addiction. Our community partnered recovery service teaches our participants how to live a life well lived, leading to greater and healthier community and society engagement.

Addiction does not discriminate. Studies indicate addiction is 95% learned behaviours, 5% coping mechanisms. Drugs, alcohol and gambling form a majority of those mechanisms, in attempts to handle unaddressed trauma and isolation. This all negatively impacts an individual’s mental health.

When healthy community is not present for any individual, isolation is often the result. This is why Robbie is cutting off his heavy hair to breathe life of hope for others to experience a life of purpose.

Help us to help others bring positive social impact to communities, one individual at a time.

Robbie will be cutting the locks on Friday 13 December, 10:00 am at Temperance Hall (24-30 View St, Bendigo). Please consider donating to the cause. The target has been set, with a $7000 goal to be achieved!

We thank you for your kind generosity in doing good for others.
