Rising Kites

My name is Sloan and I am the owner of Sloan Delores Flowers- an event floral company based in West Michigan. In 2021, I was asked to teach a flower arranging workshop where all of the proceeds would go to Rising Kites. I quickly jumped at the chance to help in anyway I could! Prior to becoming an event florist, I had spent almost 10 years teaching special education. It seemed so natural that I could combine two of my loves- flowers and the special needs community! Four years later and I have been lucky enough to be asked back time and time again to teach workshops for Rising Kites. The mission Danielle and her team is so special and one I can fully back- celebrating those with Down Syndrome. 

Rising Kites has shown up strong in this community- by providing educational materials to families with a new diagnosis, creating a space for families to lean on each other, educating the world about the joy people with disabilities can bring to us all, and providing work opportunities for those within the disability community. 

This March Rising Kites has a goal of raising $100,000 to further their work in these areas. I am excited to walk along side them and help them reach this goal. With these funds, they plan on:

- Providing employment to individuals with disabilities at the Rising Kites Flower Farm

- Expanding employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities at Rising Kites Coffee

-Funding 1,500 Rising Kites bags which will be distributed to families new to the Down Syndrome community

- Expanding their Rising Kites space to the other side of the their current building which will allow them to offer new programming
