Goal
Ripples and friends will climb Mount Snowdon 'Yr Wyddfa' in North Wales on June 27th, 2024. The Ripples team are excited to make this year's event our most successful yet, raising funds for The Cycle and their amazing causes.
And, to make matters even harder for myself, I have decided to cycle across France from the Channel to the Mediterranean the week before! At over 700 miles in 7 days, it’s going to be a tough week for the legs.
Where will your money be going?
We want to raise at least £20,000 to construct a toilet block for the girls at Government Higher Secondary School, P. Pudupatti, a school located in one of India's most underdeveloped districts. The school has 140 girls and 15 female teachers, all of whom must currently wade through deep slush and mud to reach their toilet (a single squat pan in a dilapidated building), exposing them to infections and disease.
Last year, with donor support, the school was able to build a boys toilet block - so of course we want one for the girls!
Who are The Cycle?
The Cycle is a not-for-profit organisation that has been working with communities in need for over twenty-five years building safe, sustainable eco-toilets and clean water solutions, teaching period education and menstrual disorder programmes with the provision of sustainable period products and healing the soil to increase local food production. The majority of our work happens in Southern India & is led by our sister organisation, Sanitation First India.
Their purpose?
To unlock the power of women and girls to build gender equality, because they believe gender equality is the key to a thriving world.
