Ride to DC 2021 Registration

RIDE TO DC 2021 IS HAPPENING THIS AUGUST 22-28th!

Ride to DC is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Our flagship event, the Ride to DC, is a week-long journey that takes cyclists, fully supported, on a community driven action to use our bikes and bodies to recognize the existence and significance of Black lives. The three pillars of our mission, and the backbone to our ethos, are: raising awareness, increasing accessibility, and cultivating a diverse culture in the cycling community.

This year has proven to be a volatile climate as our world changes rapidly post-pandemic and months of people showing up and out. For these reasons, this year's ride will look a bit different from last year. Things to know before signing up:

- This is a community driven event. We will have few non-riding volunteers that are dedicated to leading our crew, medical, mechanical, and food programs. These leaders will be there to guide every single rider in also helping to complete these tasks. This means we all work together, we all help each other, and we all pay for the same experience of building and caring for this community. Each pod will be donating one day of their trip to fulfilling either a crew or food crew role.

- We will be camping for our first four days. However, these campsites have pools, lakes, spaces for games, and so much more! Please know that we are doing everything possible to make the campsites accommodating, comfortable, and most importantly, fun!

- We will be staying in hotels in Baltimore and DC for our last two days of the journey. This means we get to spend more meaningful time in Baltimore this year and we can't wait!

- We will be bringing your bike back to NY for you. However, we are not responsible for your return travel to New York. You will be responsible for bringing your luggage and person back to New York or wherever you go next. We will have a bike return event on Sunday, August 29th.

This year we're doing everything we can to create as little waste as possible. For these reasons, the below is a list of required items for you to bring:

- Set of silverware: Each pod will have their own set of plates for each meal. If you bring the cutlery, we've got the rest!

- Water bottle: No one wants plastic cups! We will have hot beverage cups for coffee in the morning but we recommend trying to bring a mug or hot beverage container if you have one! You can use this water bottle as a vessel for water while riding, but also sports beverages, juices, and other fun drinks our food crew is brewing!)

- Tube: Please bring a tube or two for flats. When you complete registration we will get tubes and other necessary supplies to accommodate each bike's needs, but carrying your own is ALWAYS a good idea!

- Camping Gear: Please bring a tent, a sleeping bag, and anything else you think you'll need to comfortably sleep at our campsites. *Please keep in mind: our luggage truck has limited space. This year, we will be keeping everyone's belongings in stackable storage containers for easy access, packing, and for protection from the elements! We will be sharing details about these storage container dimensions as soon as possible. Please feel free to pack or carry extras on your bike if you'd like. These bins will be at our registration event where you'll be able to drop off luggage and see what fits prior to the ride.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH REGISTRATION:

- The ticket price reflects only the direct cost of food, lodging, mechanic supplies, medical supplies, truck rental, and the packing and careful shipment of your bike back to New York. This event is completely not for profit. Any additional funds collected through donation will go toward offering fully sponsored spots to BIPOC, Queer, and Female riders.

- Ride to DC is physically and mentally demanding, thus so incredibly beautiful! We know ANYONE can do this ride, but we do recommend preparing yourself for this journey. Please attend our training events or vow to train in whatever way feels best for you.

- We respect every person's decision about what to do with their body. For this reason, we will not require vaccination proof. However, regardless of vaccination status, every single attendee will be required to provide a negative Covid-19 test result taken within 72 hours of take-off on August 22nd.

- If you or a friend are interested in joining for only part of the route, we are able to accommodate partial rider tickets on a case-by-case basis. Please contact info@ridetodc as this is a separate registration.

- We love to hear from you! Please reach out to Alex at [email protected] if you have any questions, concerns, ideas, or just to chat!

WE CANNOT WAIT! LET'S DO THIS!
