At Fundación Casa Wabi, we believe in the power of art to forge social development, and our mission is to create a harmonious exchange between contemporary art and local communities. Located in the breathtaking settings of Puerto Escondido, Mexico City, and Tokyo, our non-profit organization draws inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. This philosophy embraces the beauty found in simplicity, imperfection, and the unconventional.

Why Clay?
Clay is not just a medium for artistic expression; it is a primary form of communication and connection. It engages the sense of touch, which is fundamental to human understanding and self-discovery. Just as a baby learns to communicate through touch, clay provides a safe and transformative outlet for children facing life's challenges.
Through our Clay Program, each year we work with more than 1200 participants, we have touched the lives of over 10,000 students, indirectly benefiting an astounding 50,400 individuals over the last 8 years. However, with our growth over the years, we recognize the need to expand and enhance this program, enabling us to reach even more young minds.
Unlocking Creativity, Building Confidence
Working with clay has a profound impact on children, particularly those who doubt their creative abilities. The simplicity of clay allows them to explore without fear of failure. It serves as a conduit for emotional release, helping them break free from destructive patterns and find solace in self-expression. As they mold and shape the clay, their self-esteem soars, especially when they create functional pieces that contribute to their daily lives.
Introducing the Utilitarian Workshop: Clay Speakers
To further enrich our Clay Program, we are excited to introduce the Utilitarian Workshop: Clay Speakers, tailored for the vibrant youth in our surrounding communities. In this workshop, participants will construct their very own clay amplifiers for cell phones, adorned with stunning glazed finishes.
Guided by our expert instructors, young minds will delve into the fascinating world of local clays, learning techniques like manual construction using plates and modeling with rope or string. Each participant's creation will undergo the transformative journey of firing, as they experience the entire artisan kiln process, from low temperature burning to high temperature firing.
The workshop agenda includes four engaging sessions:
Session 1: Introduction to clay and creation of the speaker using manual construction techniques.
Session 2: Low temperature burning in a wood-fired oven, witnessing the magical transformation of their pieces.
Session 3: Formulation and application of vibrant glazes, adding a personal touch to their creations.
Session 4: Final high temperature kiln firing, understanding the intricacies of this essential step.
Upon completion, each participant will proudly take home their unique clay speaker, a symbol of their creative journey and newfound skills.
