Goal

Growing up in the 80s meant scraped knees, Saturday morning cartoons like Smurfs, Looney Tunes, Jem and the Holograms, and Care Bears, and watching movies like The Goonies, E.T., and those slightly weird Gizmo movies I can never remember the name of. My world was filled with pop music too - Prince, Paula Abdul, George Michael, Madonna, Michael Jackson. All the hits.

My sister and I would sit on the floor with a blank cassette tape, finger hovering over the record button, waiting for the radio DJ to finally stop talking so we could capture our favorite song and build the perfect mixed tape. Life felt simple. Safe. Uncomplicated.

I grew up surrounded by love and stability. I didn’t worry about having enough to eat. I didn’t fear being hurt. Chaos and violence were not part of my childhood story.

Through my work at CASA of Central Virginia, I now know that this is not the reality for hundreds of children in our community. While we can’t change what these children have already experienced, we can change what happens next. CASA provides trained volunteer advocates who stand beside children who have been abused or neglected and make sure their voices are heard.

Your support helps ensure that no child falls through the cracks. If you believe every child deserves a safe, supported childhood, I hope you’ll help me support CASA.
