Restorative Freedom Initiative will inspire a cultural change in the United States through the advocacy campaign around Unguarded and the methodology of APAC. It will also contribute to building a practical and replicable model of an APAC-inspired program at My Father’s House for future compatible partners.

The APAC method, embodied by trained staff and volunteers, considers incarcerated persons as human beings with freedom and potential and proposes a guided path towards individual responsibility, personal growth, and healthy relationships for those convicted and in prison.

Through the Restorative Freedom Initiative, AVSI-USA will support My Father's House, a faith-based re-entry home in Denver, Colorado, which provides transitional housing and a supportive community for men as they return to society after time in prison. MFH seeks to provide a community of friends and mentors to help formerly incarcerated individuals readjust and succeed in the world. In comparison to the 83% national recidivism rate, MFH has seen no cases of recidivism since its inception, 5 years ago. The goal of the Restorative Freedom Initiative is to strengthen the institutional capacity of MFH and enhance the impact of its programs on the lives of the residents by piloting an adaptation of the APAC method in collaboration with APAC’s International Center.
