The Life You Can Save
Effective Giving Research Fund
Without rigorous evidence about what works and what doesn’t in the charity sector, donations don’t go towards the most impactful programs that improve life for the people who need our help the most. When you invest in research, you’re supporting smart giving and effective interventions.
To further advance research on effective giving, The Life You Can Save is building a small and nimble in-house research team tasked with developing an adaptive charity evaluation framework that can be applied to identify effective charities in different cause areas and geographies and with different approaches to change.
Identifying a wide range of effective charities is an exciting and challenging opportunity. To be successful, our research process must work across a wide range of outcomes and impact metrics, as well as incorporate approaches with different levels of uncertainty, different scales and different evidentiary standards. Above all, we aim to complement and not duplicate or compete with the work of other evaluators in the space.
We are currently seeking US$378,000 to fund our 2022 research and evaluation activities. Your donations to The Life You Can Save’s research fund will help support:
The Life You Can Save’s in-house research and evaluation activities, which include developing a new charity evaluation framework, investigating new cause areas, researching charities in new geographies, visiting nonprofits in-country, undertaking cost-effectiveness analysis and exploring innovative and impactful approaches to change.
Consultations with sector experts in diverse fields to provide input and feedback for our research process.
Small discretionary grants to great research organisations to fund specific research projects designed to fill gaps in our knowledge of what works.
Small discretionary grants designed to help nonprofits improve their monitoring and evaluation work and build evidence about the effectiveness of their interventions.
