Rescuing and preserving the past of the English Midlands for over 50 years
Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings has been rescuing the built heritage of the Midlands since 1962, when a group of volunteers started the Museum by rescuing a timber-framed house from Bromsgrove dating back to 1450 which was about to be demolished.
Since then the Museum has rescued 30 buildings which faced destruction and transported them to our rural site in North Worcestershire, and re-erected them for the benefit of visitors from across the UK and beyond. We have also been involved in numerous campaigns and restorations to preserve buildings on their original sites when this was possible.
The Museum uses the rescued buildings to show what life was like for the people of the Midlands in the past - especially everyday buildings which would not otherwise be preserved. Our collection represents all types of peoples' homes and workplaces - not just those of the wealthy or aristocratic!
Avoncroft has done all of this without direct funding from local or national government - but has relied on the good will and support of millions of people who have visited and decided to support this work or from people who hope to visit in the future.
Please help support us by donating to the Museum's campaign to continue this important work

We had a most enjoyable day at the museum between lockdowns and were hugely impressed by the work that has gone into the preservation of these fascinating buildings. I have just won £50 in the premium bonds draw and am donating it straight to you to help repair the mindless damage.

The news is devastating but it is so wonderful to hear that you'll be reopening this weekend and that there's such support. We have enjoyed many visits to Avoncroft over the last few decades. It's a brilliant museum.

I am horrified and very sad to hear about the vandalism. I have wonderful memories visiting Avoncroft with classes of school children. The 'guzunder' (chamberpot) and communal earth closet, causing lots of giggles!

Myself and my brother visited the Avoncroft Museum with school over 30 years ago. It was a really lovely day out, still remember it now. Here’s a little donation to help with the damaged caused by the horrible vandals.

Horrible to see the mindless damage done to something that has brought so much pleasure to so many people, and all the work that has gone into preserving our history and displaying it in an authentic way. I’m sure you’ll recover from this horrible setback and be bigger and better than ever.

Avoncroft has been part of our lives since I was a child about 50 years ago, taking part in summer clubs etc when such things were very rare at that time.
