Rescuing and preserving the past of the English Midlands for over 50 years

Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings has been rescuing the built heritage of the Midlands since 1962, when a group of volunteers started the Museum by rescuing a timber-framed house from Bromsgrove dating back to 1450 which was about to be demolished.

Since then the Museum has rescued 30 buildings which faced destruction and transported them to our rural site in North Worcestershire, and re-erected them for the benefit of visitors from across the UK and beyond.  We have also been involved in numerous campaigns and restorations to preserve buildings on their original sites when this was possible.

The Museum uses the rescued buildings to show what life was like for the people of the Midlands in the past - especially everyday buildings which would not otherwise be preserved.  Our collection represents all types of peoples' homes and workplaces - not just those of the wealthy or aristocratic!

Avoncroft has done all of this without direct funding from local or national government - but has relied on the good will and support of millions of people who have visited and decided to support this work or from people who hope to visit in the future.

Please help support us by donating to the Museum's campaign to continue this important work

haven't lived in Bromsgrove for many years, but my old band used to rehearse in the pottery shed around 15 years ago. Saw the story on the news & felt obliged to donate. Hope they catch the scum who did the damage.

My wife & I were upset to hear of this mindless vandalism. When our children were younger we spent many a happy afternoon at the museum & one memorable scary Halloween! Heartbreaking for the volunteers. We do hope you can get back to the true business of educating in a fun way.

This is very sad! Why would anybody do this? But a bit of positivity! This article has shown me how interesting this museum is. I can’t wait to come and enjoy a day out here. Here’s hoping that my donation will be of some help.👍

I was absolutely horrified to see and hear about the vandalism that has occurred. I just cannot comprehend what was going through the perpetrators' minds. I am happy to my little bit for this great local attraction and important museum.
