This training provides tools and training for birthworkers who want to work with families working with substance use and/or addiction during pregnancy, birth and the first two years postpartum.  Discussions of drug screening, treatment options, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, substance use and human milk, understanding relapse, and perinatal mental health.

Participants will learn about harm reduction and trauma-informed care alongside case study examples of what works in practice.  This training explores personal and systemic attitudes about perinatal substance use and addiction, impacts of power and oppression with examples of ways these biases affect policy and practice in both healthcare and child welfare.  Finally, our discussion will center on using these skills in the real world, including the importance of self-care.

Designed for birthworkers and folks who support families during the perinatal period.
