Red Oaks Forest School
.
Our mission at Red Oaks Forest School is to help children develop a deep and lasting connection with nature. Through outreach, education, and immersion in our local forests, we inspire the children from central and eastern Kentucky we work with to become stewards of their local environment. We serve children with a variety of needs and backgrounds, offering the types of outdoor experiences shown to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and symptoms of ADHD, while making improvements in confidence, autonomy, physical health, cooperation and school readiness. We teach kids that by protecting and caring for our forests and natural resources, we ensure that they will be there to care for us. Our programs currently include outdoor and environmental education, nature-based service opportunities and citizen science programs for all ages including public and homeschool students, and an outdoor preschool program modeled after the popular forest school programs developed in Switzerland. All of our programs are educational, but they go well beyond simply imparting knowledge; they are designed to build community and encourage a culture of environmental engagement.
Your generous donation will allow us to continue to provide children and families with quality nature immersion programs and to also increase access to our programs for the area's low income and underserved youth.
