ORGANIC FARM TO BRING OPPORTUNITIES TO

RECOVERING ADDICTS

EL PASO, TX, JULY 30, 2018- A soon-to-open nonprofit urban farm in Sierra Blanca aims to

give formerly-incarcerated men and recovering addicts a chance to "craft a future story"

while combating the region's food desert issue. Ranch on the Rock spans 5 acres and

allows men to run an urban farm while receiving counseling, coaching and business

training. The 501c3 non-profit’s purpose is to help those who want to help themselves. The

faith based program combines clinical and chemical dependency courses. Ranch on the

Rock gives men, that have been in the bonds of addiction and alcoholism, a chance to

recover. Through spiritual principles and biblical teaching, men can learn a new way of life.

Ranch on the Rock is a place of character development.

Training men how to be godly fathers, husbands, and leaders of their communities. The

program is free of charge. Ranch on the Rock is a place where men, who have come to the

end of themselves, can now tap into the beginning of God and become everything they

were destined to be.

The Ranch on the Rock Initiative is a comprehensive solution that will provide holistic

support to give emerging adult men the opportunity to achieve economic independence.

Within the microcosm of a 5 acre farm, participants will experience a living learning lab as

they work together to run a small business enterprise, gain key life skills, and build personal

resilience. The organic ranch will function as a social enterprise that employs formerlyincarcerated

men and recovering addicts. The U.S. incarceration rate is the highest of any

country in the world, and this rate is particularly high for urban cities throughout the country.

Once incarcerated, individuals re-entering the world and workforce struggle to find

employment, because of their criminal record. This added barrier can lead many who have

a history of incarceration to turn back to alternative economies that often end them back up

in America's prison system. Ranch on the Rock aims to break the cycle of re-offending and

challenge perceptions about ex-offenders, achieving real and long-term benefits for society.

One social intervention for this systemic problem is coming from innovative farms. In

addition to the Organic Ranch, a partnership with El Paso Fighting Hunger has been

established to farm fresh produce for this non profit as well as providing a food bank in the

cities of Fort Hancock and Sierra Blanca.
