Chickens have been a part of our Emmanuel family for many years, providing our children with eggs for baking, cooking, and breakfast. In 2018, our first chicken coop was built by a missionary, and over the years we brought in chickens from various areas of Haiti, hopeful for a strong and growing flock.
In 2022, we finally welcomed baby chicks—an exciting milestone for our home. Sadly, later that year, conditions in Haiti deteriorated significantly. Food became increasingly difficult to find, not only for our children, but even for the animals in our care. As a result, we lost our supply of chickens.
In September 2025, while home on break from university, Berclay took it upon himself to restart our chicken project. He restored the coop, purchased six chickens, and entrusted Lookenby and Widely with their daily care when he returned to school. Since then, these two boys have shown incredible responsibility and dedication—and we are so proud of them. Their hard work has paid off, and we are thrilled to share that we’ve received our first round of eggs once again (February 2026).
Because they have proven their commitment, we would love to invest in more chickens and continue growing our little chicken family, with the hope of one day having an abundance of eggs to help nourish our children.
Our goal is to fill our chicken coop and get back on track with providing the children with the nutritional benefits that eggs offer.
In Bombardopolis, chickens range from $10–$25 per pair, and every contribution helps us move closer to this goal.
