Raised Pinay 2023

Raised Pinay is a devised theatre piece where intergenerational Pinays (Filipinas/diasporic Filipinas) participate in an embodied storytelling process, resulting in a performance that interweaves their stories expressed through monologues, dialogues, poetry, visual art, songs, and movement.

The 5th Generation has a unique focus on motherhood - with stories lived by, experienced by, written by, and performed by a cast of 8 intergenerational Pinay mothers - re-membering, exploring, and surfacing stories of the lived experiences and the legacies of mothering.

We will explore the themes of what it means to decolonize parenting; to honor dead and living legacies; and to pay homage to the transformations mothers face throughout their lives as they “become,” forever change, and evolve in the path of raising future generations.

These gatherings are not merely performances. They are ceremony, where mothers will be witnessed with the intention to create healing for the self while fostering transnational communality between Filipinas in the diaspora and in the Philippines by benefiting Roots of Health.

Raised Pinay events are shared experiences with community - engaging with our live audience and showcasing artists, artisans, businesses, and creatives through displayed artwork, a vendor market, and fundraiser auction & raffle.
