Goal
Flapjack Syndrome
Flapjack and I spent about 3 hours at Penn Vet Cardiology today. (Velveteen came for company!) He had an echocardiogram and has been diagnosed with a condition with no name -- well, we have decided to call it Flapjack Syndrome. :D Essentially, his pulmonary artery is considered obstructed. It is too thin. So, his heart must work harder to push blood through. This does not cause any immediate concerns, but there are issues that can develop down the road due to his heart overworking.
When he is 6 months old, he will need to repeat the echo procedure -- and might need to be treated by medication. Flapjack has a good chance to lead a purrfectly healthy and long life! We need to take the necessary steps to ensure we monitor, prevent and treat any issues that might be caused by his condition. At this time, there is no surgical method to correct the defect that he was likely born with. He just has a super special heart! We are waiting for her final report, but the doctor's initial impression is that Jack can be cleared for neuter surgery.
Meet Bugs!
Over the last few days, I became aware of another little girl who is the same age as Flapjack and was diagnosed with the same initial problem: a grade 3/6 heart murmur. She is currently in a cage at a local shelter, where she needs a rescue to step up and help. This girl, like Jack, needs to see a cardio specialist to diagnose her further before any spay surgery can be considered.
It seems like fate to discover this little girl the same age with the same cardiology need as Jack. He was an orphan boy found with no siblings when Kitkat Playroom originally took him in. He now has 6 kitten step-siblings and we'd love to welcome another lonely gal to the Rabbit crew! As part of the Rabbit family, we've named her Bugs! She is due to arrive at the Playroom on December 5. If her combo test results come back negative, she can join the Rabbits immediately.
Please, We Need Help!
We desperately need help to cover the cost of Jack's cardiology appointment at Penn Vet. We also need to raise funds for Bugs to see a cardiology specialist at Penn Vet. AND we still need funds to cover all 8 kittens' routine veterinary care -- like dewormers, speuters, vaccinations, wellness exams, microchips, and flea treatment.
We thank you so much for all of your help this past year. We saved and found homes for 31 homeless felines with only one foster parent! We need your help again for these 8 homeless kittens as we near the end of 2017.
With gratitude,
Jen, Kitkat Playroom
